2019 Engineering Summer Camp
The theme for the NMIH Summer Camp 2019 is “We Built This City: Engineering a City from the Ground Up”. In addition to getting a crash course in 1980’s music, summer campers will learn to think critically and strategically about the topography and infrastructure that allows civilizations to develop purposefully and operate strategically.
Participants entering grades 4 through 6 will learn factors to consider when planning a new city: various terrain and waterways, urban, suburban, and rural features, as well as how utilities are distributed to everyone in the city. They will gain experience through looking at blueprints, using virtual reality to evaluate architectural features, and participate in constructing roads, bridges, and buildings that will be major features of the city. Participants will also gain an appreciation for the magic behind all the things we turn on in our homes: electricity, water, heat, and the internet. NMIH is partnering with local architectural, civil, electrical, transportation, and mechanical engineers to provide campers with an authentic experience and professional perspective. On the final day of camp, we will put everything we learned together as campers work together to engineer the ideal city.
